Small Business Spotlight: Miss. TeenyFab Couture

Hello and thank you for agreeing to be interviewed for our "Small Business Spotlight".  I am a huge fan of Miss. TeenyFab Couture and her "Afro Hello Kitty" shirts.   As some of you may know... Ms Bree one!

5.  Briefly tell us about your business:  

I love to make outfits that are sure to make other people WOW over your little darling.

From  OTT bows to fab tutus and custom shirts.  
We offer products that will set your child apart from the rest in today's world; I take pride in what I do and offering fab couture for my own diva as well as yours.

6.  How did you come to be in this line of work?

I've always loved bows so when I had my daughter in 2009 it began then  my mother in law taught me how to sew. 
In 2012 I decided to open up and started the Fb page which now my friend Shandria Alexander runs she's amazing!!! She makes sure everything runs smoothly and she also sews so were adding new items constantly 

7. How long have you been doing this?

 About 2 years for just family and friends and up and running our 1 year anniversary is coming up in July  

8. Who would benefit from your product? 

Anyone who's looking for something special for their child. We do a lot of custom items so its more then likely no one else is gonna have it.

Cute & Simple- a style for Mother's Day

This is a very cute and very simple style that your little one can rock this weekend!!  

How to get this look: 

Products used after washing her hair:

100% Coconut Oil / Castor Oil (Equal parts)

Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer

Banding Process:

I stretch Ms. Bree's hair by using several bands (i.e. small scrunchies, ouchless bands or cloth covered bands) at approximately 1/2 " to 1" apart. 

I choose banding in lieu of blow drying or flat ironing the hair because both will cause heat damage to the hair.

   

  

NOW WE ARE READY TO STYLE!

Products used to style:

Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer

Curls Passion Fruit Curl Control Paste

Hair Tools you will need:

Wide Tooth Comb

Rat Tail Comb

10  Rubber Bands

1 Cloth cover band

3 Ouchless Hair bands/or rubber bands

5 Hair Pins

1 Flower Clip

*Remove all bands from each section;

  

* With your rat tail comb, part out a circle, clip the center hair so it is out of your way;

*On the bottom part of the circle, create five small box braids using a small amount of Bee Mine Curly Butter and Eco Styler Gel.

*Part the front section of the hair in the center;

*Part the left section in two equal parts and create two cornrows by using Bee Mine Curly Butter and Curls Passion Fruit Curl Control paste;

  

*Follow the same step above to do the right section.

*Collect the center section of the hair into a pony tail and secure it by using a cloth covered hair band;

*Slide the hair from the pony tail through your sock bun/foam bun;

*Cover the bun shaper with the pony tail hair as much as possible;

*once the bun is smooth apply the second hair band;

*Carefully bring all the hair toward the bottom of the bun;

*Create three braids using the loose ends of the bun.

*Bring the ends of all four cornrow braids around the bun and secure them with hair pins

REVIEW: HONEY CURLS DEEP CONDITIONER

This review is so behind schedule so I apologize for that.  As all you of may know, we received this product from our newest sponsor, Honey Curls.  We are so thankful for the opportunity and even more excited to review this line.  

When I read the ingredients I noticed that this product is: 

* No SLS or ALS sulfates
* No petroleums
* No artificial colors
* No artificial fragrances
* No silicones
* No parabens
* No mineral oil
* No petroleums
* No artificial colors
* No artificial fragrances

After washing Ms. Bree's hair I applied the Honey Curls Honey Melody Deep Conditioner.  Now,  I was surprised by the consistency of it, its like a light yellow oil mix, I guess I'm used to using Bee Mine Deep Conditioner which is a creamy conditioner.  

Although the conditioner has no scent to it, it did not affect how well it worked on her hair!  Ms Bree's hair was shinny, soft and with very little frizz which made the detangling process an easy step.

The pump on the bottle was a nice touch, since after the first application my hands were all slippery, the pump was very convenient to finish conditioning her hair, and due to the amount of hair this little lady has, you can imagine how many times I had to go back and forth.   

Overall, this product is amazing! Yeah, it doesn't have a nice floral or fruity scent but don't let that turn you away from it.   

NOW, this is a protein free product so keep that in mind when doing your monthly deep conditioners.

UPDATED REVIEW: Mixed Chicks Hair Silk

**MIXED CHICKS PRODUCT REVIEW**

YES, we have been given the opportunity to review  all these amazing products from Mixed Chicks! 

We received the box a couple of days ago and I started by using their Hair Silk on my hair.  I often wear my hair straight.

The (bottom) box included:

Mixed Chicks Shampoo;

Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner; and

Mixed Chicks Hair Silk.

**MIXED CHICKS HAIR SILK**

Hair silk Ingredients: (shine serum)

CYCLOMETHICONE (AND) DIMETHICONOL, DIMETHICONE, PHENYL TRIMETHICONE, C12-15 ALKYL BENZOATE, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, PANTHENOL (PRO VITAMIN B5) ETHYL ESTER OF HYDROLYZED SILK, PHENOXETHANOL, FRAGRANCE (PARFUM).

Directions:  After using mixed chicks products, shine, smooth and finish curly or straight hair with the luxurious feel of silk; 

Place a small amount of hair silk in the palms and apply from scalp to the ends.  May  be used on wet or dry hair.  Use as often as necessary.

Claim:  *Control fly aways *reduce split ends *add extra shine

BEFORE: 

               

As you can see, my hair is not curly, is more "wavy", but only on the top, then it becomes straight at the end.  You will often hear me call my hair "indeciso", which means "Undecided" in Spanish.  Why? you may ask, because is in between wavy and straight, neither here or there... which it can be annoying sometimes.

To give you a better idea of my curl pattern, take a look at the Chart Below.  My hair will be considered a Type 2b/2c.

WASHING PROCESS:

Washing my hair is not as time consuming as washing Ms. Bree's hair.  I'm currently using Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion.   I love the smell and how soft it makes my hair.  BUT that's a review for another day.  

After washing my hair, I added a little bit of Mixed Chicks Hair Silk to my wet hair and let it air dry.  

Usually when I let my hair air dry the results are not pretty, BUT after applying the hair silk to my hair, it didn't look brittle or dry, and it didn't turned into a lion's mane like it usually would. 

This is how it looked: 

The results were not bad at all! 

After my hair was 100% dry I did the following:

I again applied a little bit of the Hair Silk to my dry hair.  (CAREFUL, a little goes a long way).  

I divided my hair into four sections.  I follow the same steps I do when doing Ms. Bree's hair.  Obviously, I don't have to stretch my by using the "banding technique".   But working in small sections always minimizes heat damage to the hair, whether its curly or not.  

The tool I use:  my flat iron is a "Paul Mitchell ProTools Express Ion Smooth 1.25"; the advantage of this flat iron is that you can control the heat level.  While I use lower settings for Ms. Bree's hair (between 280-320), I use the high settings for my hair, usually between 360-400.  

NOTE:  Please remember that my hair is not a fragile as my daughters and I've been doing this for a very long time.  If you are new at using flat irons and are not sure what setting to use, PLEASE start by using the lower settings.

After flat ironing the bottom section of my hair was so smooth and shinny! 

These were the results:

The scent of the product didn't go away after using the flat iron as most of the serums I have used.   It has a citrus scent, I think, it's hard to explain but a citrus smell is as close as I can describe it.  

My hair still looked shinny and felt nice and smooth after eight hours of work.  I have the tendency to play with my hair a lot through out the day, which makes it look dull and frizzy from around the hair line, but it didn't look like that at all.

I am very happy with the results and equally happy that I was given the opportunity to try and review this product.  For years I had used others that only made my hair feel greasy and sticky after two days.  

Well, this is my second day and my hair still feels clean, light, smooth and still smells great!  How AMAZING is that?  

I know that this product is not "cones" free but then again, my hair is different and it has different needs!  

Would I try this on her??.. most likely I will the next time I flat iron her hair.

 SEVEN DAYS later... my  hair still looks good.  Since it rained yesterday, I got a little wet, but IT WAS A QUICK FIX.. I just applied a little bit more of the hair silk and flat ironed the top part and nice all over again!
