Product Review: Dark & Lovely Au Naturale Moisture LOC Line

Hello my lovelies!!

Wow, can you believe it??  Easter has come and gone in a blink of an eye and due to the amount of rain we received, the Easter Egg Hunt at our Church was not the only event canceled this weekend.

In fact, today's baseball practice has also been cancelled. We experienced close to 4 inches of rain during the weekend, making Easter Sunday the wettest day in March for Savannah since March 5th, 1959!!  Mother nature did not get the memo, "it is not supposed to rain on Easter Sunday"!!

Nevertheless, Ms. Bree's hair was perfect thanks to the products from Dark  Lovely Au Naturale Moisture L.O.C. Line...

I purchased these items at my local hair store, every single product was $9.99 including the small bottle of oil.  I highly recommend you shop around first.  I wish I would have known, but Target has them at lower price!!

The Products I used are:

Step 1:

Step 2:

Step 3:

Step 4:
To keep her hair shiny, I used the Dark and Lovely Au Naturale Nourishing Shine Nectar 5.75 oz and I can use it as often as needed.

This time I did not used their Sulfate Free Cleansing Shampoo or the Deep Conditioning Delight.  But I will use them in her next washing session and will be posting our review once we do.

Dark & Lovely Au Naturale Moisture L.O.C. line has been on the market for over a year. This is our second time using them and they did not disappoint me on either occassion.

Their entire line is infused with Coconut & Moringa Oils.  While I'm very well acquainted with the use of coconut oil, this is the first time I use a product with Moringa Oils.

Moringa Oils comes from the seeds of Moringa Oleifera Tree.  Want to know more? Read this article about the Benefits of Moringa Oil for Skin, Hair and Health.

DURING OUR FIRST TIME:

How I used these products:

I applied the Leave In Spray to freshly washed and detangled hair.  I highly recommend working in small sections.   Ms. Bree's Hair was divided into 8 sections.

After applying Leave In Spray, I applied the Soak It Up Oil Cocktail followed by the Lock It Up Sealing Cream.

As you can see on the picture above, I braided her hair instead of our usual Two Strand Twists.

After three days or so, I unraveled her braids and her "braid out" was amazing! "Full and Fluffy!"

The scent of these products are amazing and they all go very well together.  The scent is not overpowering at all and it mellows out even more after a day or so.

SECOND TIME USE

During our second time using these products, I followed the same L.O.C. technique.  Using the same products in the same order:

a. Leave In Spray,
b. Soak It Up Oil Cocktail, and
c. Sealing It Up Cream

This time, Ms. Bree has two pony tails on the front and medium size box braids on the back. I styled Ms. Bree's hair on Friday and it still looked amazing on Sunday Morning. Even with all the rain and humidity, she had no "fly aways" or "frizz".

The "pros" of these products are:

*They can be found at many stores;
*They do exactly what they claim;
*The prices are not extremely high.  They are a great alternative to any expensive hair product.

The cons... uhmm well, the only thing I COULD find that can pose as a problem, is that they are NOT all natural but they are the next best thing as a "all natural" product.  I have not seen any signs of bumps, itchiness, flakiness, or product build up on her scalp.

Overall, I like these products, and while some of my favorite are highly priced, these will definitely work as an alternative for those "dry" days. (By dry days, I mean those days when we really don't have a lot of cash laying around to spend on hair products).

I am considering trying more products from this line like Coil Moisturizing Souffle and Easy Twist Gel N Butter.....

Have you tried any of these products?  Give them a try and let us know your thoughts.

Bali Sunrise Soy Candle Review

Hello my beauties!

Today I am sharing with you one of my greatest Target finds!

I love candles, Yankee Candles used to be my favorite ones but it became really hard to find my favorite scent, "Home Sweet Home" and let's not mention how expensive they are now.

Therefore I'd switched to Air Wick Essential Oils "Island Paradise" scents.  While the "warmer" plug-ins are not expensive at all, the scented oils can be and while I adore my high ceilings and open rooms, in order to keep our house smelling like "Island Paradise", I need at least eight (8) of these Air Wick scented oils.  (and that's not including the bedrooms and bathrooms).

While looking for a mirror, I found these amazing candles at my local Target Store and they were on sale too!!  I was hesitant at first, we all know it is really difficult to rely on very inexpensive candles.  Most of the times, they don't live up to their promises.

These candles DO live up to their promise and are a great alternative from the expensive brands.  The other positive attribute of these candles is that they are "soy based" and the "burn time" of these soy candles is up to 50 hours.  I bought these candles on or about March 9th and they are still going.  I light them up every day for approximately three to four hours and for about eight hours on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Bali Sunrise Soy Blend has a citrus fruity scent and it is not overpowering at all!  Give them a try and you won't regret it!

The small size is $5.00 which is perfect for the bathroom.  I purchased the medium size for $10.00 but they also have the 21 oz for $15.00.

Use the coupon below for an extra 10% off on these amazing candles!

Let me know your thoughts once you've had an opportunity to try these candles!

Product Review by Ma Vie en Pink

Hello Readers!

Today I will be sharing my friend Emily's very simple routine using two amazing products.  While I have not tried these products on Ms. Bree's hair or mine, Emily sure is a fan of these products and is definitely enjoying her curly hair thanks to the results she is able to accomplish.

THE PRODUCTS:

1. Oyin Handmade Hair Dew- Daily Hair Quenching Lotion; and
2. Nuance Salma Hayek, Blue Agave Curl Cream.

From Emily...

Hello friends: I have a very simple routine for my wavy/curly hair but since adding/switching the two products pictured above.   I am having so many more GREAT CURLY HAIR days, therefore, I thought I would share this with all of you.

I usually wash and condition my hair with whatever is in the shower at the time (I know, I know...).

Lately, it has been Clear Intense Hydration.  After drying my hair off with a cotton T-Shirt, I use a tiny bit of Oyin Handmade Hair Dew Daily Hair Lotion, as my leave in - this stuff is so great I don't even have to crunch my hair. My curl pattern just appears. This thing is a miracle in a bottle once you find the amount that works for you. For my curl type, too much of it will weigh my hair down A LOT. Another plus, it smells delicious!

                               Their claim: "this creamy, conditioning leave-in is light enough
                                          for every day. it's great on 'naked' hair immediately after a cleanse,
                                          or as a way to reinvigorate tired hair all the way through your hair
                                          care cycle. for seriously protective hair experience, try using hair dew
                                          on moist hair (or over a quick spritz of one of our Juices herbal leave-
                                          insand then seal ends with one of the Sugar Pomades before gently
                                          manipulating hair into a protective style like braids, twists, or an updo.
                                          days of moisture, sheen, and hair happiness!"

As my styler, I use this cream from the Nuance brand (Salma Hayek at CVS). I apply about a nickel size amount to my curls while my head is up-side-down crunching up my curls and that's it.

It gives me a soft - not crunchy hold (you know what I mean!). If I want a little extra volume I do use a diffuser on low heat; however, the picture below is just air dried hair (about 60% dry). Anyway, I highly recommend these products because lets face it we could all use more great hair days!

heart emoticon Ems

Our Experience:
I washed Ms. Bree’s hair using the Nourishing Shampoo and it was a wonderful experience.

When it comes to the shampoo, a little goes a long way, it lathers up easily and leaves its’ intoxicating fragrance behind! Even now, days later after washing Ms. Bree’s hair I can still smell the scent of the products.  The shampoo left her hair and scalp extra clean without giving it that ugly dry feeling and her hair definitely felt hydrated.

The conditioner was no different from the shampoo, after the first application I could unmistakably feel her hair become soft making the detangling process a breeze.  Once I rinsed her hair out, it was evident that her curls were more defined and undeniably hydrated.  You can see these results on the picture above.  I am very pleased with the results and I was even more pleased with the fact that my daughter’s hair truly benefited from the use of these products.

Are you intrigued but not so sure if you should spend $30.00 on a product?? Not to worry, visit their “Travel Size” section and look at their 2 oz. selections!

These Products are available in two fragrances:

This book is approximately 132 pages long and is full of information about Wigs, Weaves, Natural Hair and so much more. But let’s break it down and see what you can expect to see in this book.
Chapter One through Chapter Four: Wigs

In these chapters you will find everything you need to know if you are thinking about option to sport a wig.  The writers give tips like:

*How to choose the right Wig;
*How to choose the right style based on the shape of your face;

*The difference between lower and higher synthetic hair, human blend and human hair;
*The pros and cons of the use of human hair in Wigs.

Additionally, you will also have at your fingers tips, information on how to properly care for a Wig.  From shampooing, conditioning, drying, brushing and styling it in order for the Wig to last longer.  If you are not one hundred percent sure on how to put a Wig on, don’t worry this book will also provide you with that information!

Chapter Five through Chapter Nine: Weaves

Like the previous chapters, under the “Weaves” chapters you will find the different kind and qualities of Weaves.

Tips on how to properly apply them and care for them. If you are not familiar with the different kind of Weaves that are out there in the Hair Market, and are looking to get a better picture of what the differences are and which ones are “heat friendly”, than this book is definitely good to have.

These chapters will also give tips on how to determine how much hair you will need to buy and the length of the hair in order to accomplish a particular style.

Chapter Nine through Chapter 15: Natural Hair

I’ve been doing my daughter’s hair for some time now, and I’m very familiar with the majority of the information found in the Natural Hair chapters.  But if you are thinking about going natural or if you are looking to keep your curly kids natural and you are not sure where to start, this is book is for you!!

You will have information on:

*The Big Chop and Transitioning;
*Texture Types and Different Curl Patterns;
*Definition on Co-Washing, Stretching Banding, Twisting, Blow Outs and Bantu Knots.

More importantly, you will find tips on natural hair styles and how to properly flat iron your hair without damaging your curly tresses.

At the end of each section you will find a list of “Shalls” and “Shall Nots” which are great to have!

This book also talks about “The Bald Movement” and its founder Nell Coleman.  The Bald movement was designed to support and empower people all over the world to embrace the essence of being bald.

You will also find information on CinagrOrganic Healthy Hair Products and its founder Giovan Lane, Ancients Secrets with Temeka Royster, Hairnamics Hair Vitamins with Kim Kearney, and more!

I truly enjoyed seeing all the photographs and reading all the information contained in this book.  If you are new to the Natural Hair world, this is a great book to have.

Product Review- Turbie Twist Hair Towel

Hello Readers:

Here is another product review for all of you!

The Original Turbie Twist (Microfiber Version)

Their Claim:

"Turbie Twist® is the Original Super Absorbent Twist
and Loop hair towel that Stays in Place! Featuring a unique tapered design, the Turbie Twist® allows for a perfect fit on all head sizes making it great for Kids and Adults! The lightweight design also reduces neck strain. Through savings in laundry and blow drying time the product practically pays for itself. Less blow drying = healthier hair
!"

Features of the Turbie Twist®
  • Stays in Place!
  • Less Blow Drying!
  • One Size Fits All!
  • Super Absorbent!
  • Lightweight!
  • Machine Washable!

How to use it:

Is very easy to use and a lot more comfortable than a regular towel.

Their Instructions:

It is really that easy!

1.  I gather and twist her hair up then place the towel as shown on Picture 1 (the Loop will be on the back of your head);

2.  Now, you have  the longer portion of the towel in front of you.  Twist it as shown on Picture 2;

3. Then bring it back and put the twisted part of the Turbie through the loop and done!

Then it will look like this:

My daughter hates anything that covers her ears, but she sure didn't mind this soft material covering her ears.

This product gets a big 10 from me for so many reasons, let's go over a few:

1. Practicality: It is very easy to use and it actual stays in place.  My poor baby no longer will have to hold the towel in place and this product is machine washable.

2. Weight:  I love the fact that is very light in weight, my daughter is only five years old and using a regular towel can be very uncomfortable for her.  Once the towel get wet becomes heavy therefore causing some discomfort on her neck.

3. Less Damaging:  Because it is made out of Microfiber, it's less damaging to her curly hair.

Now, about the "super absorbent- less blow drying" part of their claim- I can't really say that I agree or disagree to that part of the product's description because I never blow dry Ms Bree's hair after washing it.   But what I can tell you is that water was  not running down her back or down her face.

The Turbie Twist was convenient, easy to use, stayed in place and it gave her more freedom to move around until I was ready to sit and moisturize her hair.

I've heard that using a t-shirt is just as good but I always end up trashing old t-shirts and never saving any.  I also believe that what makes the Turbie Twist easier to put on is the shape of the product.

This is a product any curly should have!

Where you can buy it:

*Bed Bath & Beyond;
*Walgreens;
*ULTA Beauty;
*Some Walmart Stores;
*Sally Beauty;
*Amazon.com; and of course
*Turbietwist.com;
