Our I AM MIXED T-Shirts!

Hello Readers:

       Almost a year ago we were given the opportunity to review the first book from the "I AM Series: I AM MIXED," written by Garcelle Beauvais and Sebastian A. Jones, let's not forget to mention the amazing illustrations by James C. Webster.

      You can read our review here: "Book Review: I AM MIXED"

       We absolutely loved the book from the very first moment we started reading it and the kids have enjoyed reading it over and over again.  My seven year old son loves the fact that he and his sister look like the twins, Jay and Nia, the main characters of the book.

      As parents of biracial children, we want our mixed kids to grow up feeling proud of who they are and the way they look.  We love the book because it helps the children understand that they ARE the best of mommy and daddy's world in a very fun way they can understand.

     My husband once described the book as one of the best illustrated and well written books for children.    So, we suggest that you take the time to look into adding this amazing book to your little one's bookshelf.

      Now, our perfectly blended children are exhibiting the "I AM MIXED" fabulous Tees which are now available!

Product Review- Turbie Twist Hair Towel

Hello Readers:

Here is another product review for all of you!

The Original Turbie Twist (Microfiber Version)

Their Claim:

"Turbie Twist® is the Original Super Absorbent Twist
and Loop hair towel that Stays in Place! Featuring a unique tapered design, the Turbie Twist® allows for a perfect fit on all head sizes making it great for Kids and Adults! The lightweight design also reduces neck strain. Through savings in laundry and blow drying time the product practically pays for itself. Less blow drying = healthier hair
!"

Features of the Turbie Twist®
  • Stays in Place!
  • Less Blow Drying!
  • One Size Fits All!
  • Super Absorbent!
  • Lightweight!
  • Machine Washable!

How to use it:

Is very easy to use and a lot more comfortable than a regular towel.

Their Instructions:

It is really that easy!

1.  I gather and twist her hair up then place the towel as shown on Picture 1 (the Loop will be on the back of your head);

2.  Now, you have  the longer portion of the towel in front of you.  Twist it as shown on Picture 2;

3. Then bring it back and put the twisted part of the Turbie through the loop and done!

Then it will look like this:

My daughter hates anything that covers her ears, but she sure didn't mind this soft material covering her ears.

This product gets a big 10 from me for so many reasons, let's go over a few:

1. Practicality: It is very easy to use and it actual stays in place.  My poor baby no longer will have to hold the towel in place and this product is machine washable.

2. Weight:  I love the fact that is very light in weight, my daughter is only five years old and using a regular towel can be very uncomfortable for her.  Once the towel get wet becomes heavy therefore causing some discomfort on her neck.

3. Less Damaging:  Because it is made out of Microfiber, it's less damaging to her curly hair.

Now, about the "super absorbent- less blow drying" part of their claim- I can't really say that I agree or disagree to that part of the product's description because I never blow dry Ms Bree's hair after washing it.   But what I can tell you is that water was  not running down her back or down her face.

The Turbie Twist was convenient, easy to use, stayed in place and it gave her more freedom to move around until I was ready to sit and moisturize her hair.

I've heard that using a t-shirt is just as good but I always end up trashing old t-shirts and never saving any.  I also believe that what makes the Turbie Twist easier to put on is the shape of the product.

This is a product any curly should have!

Where you can buy it:

*Bed Bath & Beyond;
*Walgreens;
*ULTA Beauty;
*Some Walmart Stores;
*Sally Beauty;
*Amazon.com; and of course
*Turbietwist.com;

A List of Deep Conditioners & Protein Deep Conditioner Treatments

Hello Readers:

Last week we talked about Hot Oil Treatments.  (Read our post here- Hot Oil Treatments).

I received a few messages asking for a list of Deep Conditioners, Protein Deep Conditioners and what are the benefits to certain oils.

This post will provide you with a list of a few D.I.Y treatments and a list of treatments that you can purchase in store.   I will go over the benefits of each oil on our next post.

Let's start with D.I.Y. Deep Conditioners:

I know that we have so many steps to remember when caring for our curly tresses, but I can promise you that you hair will thank you a thousand times if you add a Deep Conditioner to your hair regimen.

Deep conditioners will make your hair feel alive, soft and moisturizes.  It can prevent your hair from breaking and it can restore many needed nutrients to your tresses.

Our friends at Natural Hair Kids provided us with these four easy and amazing deep conditioners/protein conditioners that you can do at home:

Below is a List of Deep Conditioners that you can purchase in store or online:

1. *Bee Mine Bee-U-Ti-Ful Deep Conditioner;
2. Eden Bodyworks Jojoba Monoi All Natural Deep Conditioner;
3. Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque;
4. Curls-Ecstasy Hair Tea Conditioner;
5. Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioners;
6. Jessicurl Deep Conditioner;
7. My HoneyChild Olive You Deep Conditioner;
8. My HoneyChild Honey Hair Mask;
9. As I Am Hydration Elation Intensive Conditioner.

* Bee Mine is the Deep Conditioner I use on my daughter's hair.

Another type of Deep Conditioners that you hair may need is a "Protein Deep Conditioner".

DIY Protein Treatments

The Avocado Conditioner, The Coconut Milk Conditioner and the Banana Conditioner seen on Natural Hair Kids photo (above) are great and easy Protein Conditioners but here are some our fans' favorite DIY Recipes:

Almond, Mayonnaise & Honey Mask:
     2 Eggs;
     5 Tbs of Mayonnaise;
     3 Tbs of Honey and
     2 Tbs of Almond Oil

Mix ingredients and apply to hair. (Note: the longer the hair, the more ingredients you will need)

Yogurt DC Mask:
     Eggs; and
     Plain Yogurt.

Mix ingredients and apply to hair.

I prefer "ready to use" products, therefore I have made a list of products that you can buy either in "packs" or in bottles.

NOTE:  My suggestion is to purchase the packs first, they are very inexpensive and if you don't like a particular brand then you won't end up with a lot of unused products and a big hole in your pocket.

1. *Creme of Nature Argan Oil Conditioner Reconstructor;
2. Palmers Coconut Oil Formula Deep Conditioning Protein Pack;
3. Aphogee 2 Step Protein Treatment;
4. Aubrey Organics GPB;

5. Queen Helene Cholesterol Cream;
6. Aubrey Organics GPB Glycogen Protein Balancing Conditioner;
7. Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayonnaise Treatment;
8. DevaCurl Heaven in Hair;
9. K-Pak Deep Penetrating Reconstructor.

*Creme of Nature Argan Oil Conditioner Reconstructor is what I use.  You can purchase it in a pack or the bottle.  Also, I will be trying Palmers Coconut Oil Formula Deep Conditioning Protein Pack.

If you would like to share your DIY recipes with us, please feel free to send us a message and we will share it with the rest of our readers!
