Online

3. Business' Website: http://www.www.biracialboutique.com

4. Are you the owner?

I am the founding and currently sole member/President.

5. Briefly tell us about your business:

Biracial Boutique, LLC is an online retailer specializing in toys/games, books, hair care products, art supplies, and other related products for biracial and multiracial children and families.

Samples of some of the items carried:

New books that are coming soon:

6. How did you come to be in this line of work?

I am the proud mother of 2 biracial children: a school aged girl and a baby boy. I know firsthand the difficulties in finding hair products for my daughter’s fine textured but super curly hair.

It’s almost impossible to find art supplies like crayons or markers that represent actual children’s faces because brown black and peach just don’t cut it. Dolls are almost always one extreme or the other; I have never seen a doll resembling a biracial person in a store.

I know many other families with biracial and multiracial children through birth, adoption, or marriage and all have expressed the same frustrations as my family. I wanted to be able to provide a one-stop-shop for these types of items to help families and children to be able to teach about self-identity, diversity, and understanding.

7. How long have you been doing this?

Just starting out, the site went live June 1, 2013!

8. Who would benefit from your product?

The people who would benefit from my products would mainly be families who have biracial or multiracial children due to birth, transracial adoption or fostering, or through marriage / step-parenting. People purchasing gifts for families in these categories would also benefit. I may offer a gift registry in the future if it becomes something my customers want.

9. How can our fans place their order or contact you?

All are welcome to visit http://www.biracialboutique.com to place an order or send us a message. They can also feel free to enter reviews for products they are familiar with and come back in the future to review any of their purchases. If they want to reach me directly, my email is info@biracialboutique.com. I can be reached by phone at 404-981-6482, but email is generally faster.

10. Any current specials or event you want to share with our fans?

Through the end of June I am offering a Grand Opening sale. Shoppers can use the coupon code GrandOpening2013 for a 10% discount on orders over $50.

Simple Styles: Braid Out

I'm going to try to make this as short as possible... I will not get upset if you need to stop and come back later to finish reading it! This post its all about "Braids Out". Below you will see pictures of Braids Out from two different styles.

On our last post, Short Cornrows and Beads, Ms Bree had a few cornrows on top and a few on the back.

This is what her curlz looked like when I took the braids out.

Product Used:  Bee Mine Bee Lovely Daily Moisturizer;
Hello Kitty Headband from Target.

DAY 2-Half Up Pony Tail

The picture below was taken after school. As you all can see, her hair gained a little bit of "volume".. Ha ha! Her curlz still looked amazing and was soft!

Product Used: Bee Mine Bee Lovely Daily Moisturizing
1 Ouchless Band
1 Bow Hair Clip to match her shirt.

DAY 3- Messy Bun

The messy bun was easy to do, by now her hair was "big" so I just spritz some water and applied a bit more of Bee Mine Bee Lovely Daily Moisturizer and gathered all the hair in one loose pony tail.

Then I grabbed the end of the pony tail and pined (hair pins) all ends close to the band securing the pony tail.

As you can probably see from the pictures above, it was time to co-wash and style her hair, which I did.

I washed her hair with Bee Mine Botanical Moisturizing Shampoo;
Conditioner her hair with Bee Mine Avocado Conditioner;

And because she enjoyed wearing her hair out so much, I decided to give her another week of wearing her hair down and I did 10 braids in order to do a Braid Out.

After rinsing her hair out:

I applied our mix of 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and Castor Oil;
then I applied Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer with a little Bee Mine Curly Butter;
and did the braids.

I sent her to school wearing the braids;

Once I've picked Ms. Bree up from school, I got her ready for her little friend's birthday party at Chuckee Cheese and unraveled all her braids.

This is what her hair looked like:
DAY 1

As you can see, her hair was shiny and soft.

DAY 2- Just with a Headband

I damped her hair a little bit and applied Bee Mine Deja Hair Milk;
and just a simple black Headband to accessorize

DAY 3

For Day 3, I again damped her hair a little bit and applied Bee Mine Deja Hair Milk...

Great Style & 4th Birthday Photos!

Ms. Bree turned 4 yrs old on Friday but her party is schedule for this upcoming Saturday, make sure you don't miss Royal Birthday Party- Part II

While we wait for the big day to come, we surely are having some fun getting ready for it.

We started by having her pictures taken on Saturday morning.

After a few requests from our facebook fans, Ms. Bree rocked her natural curls for this photo session. Make sure you follow us on facebook: CaramelCurlzNSwirls

Ms. Bree's photo session was scheduled for 11:00 a.m., therefore I washed her hair around 9:00 a.m. giving the hair enough time to air dry. I do not use a blow dryer to dry her hair (at all)

I Washed her hair using the following:
    *Creme of Nature Argan Oil Moisturizing Shampoo;
    *Suave Moroccan Infusion Shine Conditioner (review will be posted soon);

To style it:
    *100% Coconut Oil applied to wet hair;
    *Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer;
    *Bee Mine Curly Butter

I made sure that her hair was completely detangled during the conditioning process;

I used only my fingers to apply the products (no combs/brushes);

I placed a towel around her to make sure her clothes didn't get wet and I actually left it in place until her hair was almost dry.

Note: When we are at home and Ms. Bree is playing with Lil Man, I make sure that she wears her satin cap to minimize the frizzies.

She is old enough now to keep her satin cap on most of the time, if it falls off while playing, she is really good about letting me know right and I just put it back on.

Are the Curls Ready for the Winter?

WINTER IS HERE!!!

Everyone is getting or is ready for winter. Coats, gloves, scarves, and hats are out of storage and ready to be used. (Some of you are probably already wearing them).
A lot of people not only change our wardrobe but also change their children's hair routine to properly care for those beautiful curls during the harsh cold weather and winds.
We have purchased a few items for Ms. Bree to wear during the cold days. Although her school curriculum changes in order to keep the kids indoors, they have to go outside sometime and play.
Here are few items you may want to purchase for the winter months. (This items can also be used all year around)

Satin Pillow Case and/or Satin Sleep Cap:

Lavender Satin Pillowcase with Hidden Zipper, Standard Size Dream Jumbo Satin Sleep Cap - Black
You may find this at your local hair store, Satin Sleep Caps are usual priced $0.99 to $1.99. A Satin Pillow case are usually priced $2.99 - $3.99, this also can be found at your local hair store or on-line. NOTE: Satin caps can also be worn under a regular winter hat, doing so will prevent the winter cap from breaking and drying the little one's hair.
or BT Cotton Kufi Cap BABY PINK
Crochet Beanie Hats or vented Bands. I bought them a little big (Teen Size) because I would be putting the sating cap under it. They come in several colors, I paid around $2.99 each, you can find them at your local hair store or you can find some really cute ones online.

Ms. Bree's washing routine has changed as well as her products. Her routine now includes the following:

Creme of Nature Moisture & Shine ShampooCreme of Nature Moisture & Shine ShampooCrème of Nature- Argan Oil Shine and Moisture Shampoo. *Product Review Coming Soon*

Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Conditioner, Moisturizing - 23.7 ...or Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Conditioner, Moisturizing - 23.7 ...Herbal Essences None of Your Frizzness Conditioner, Anti Frizz - ...Herbal Essence Hellow Hydration Conditioner. This is a conditioner that we have used for years and we seem to always go back to it. We either use None of Your Frizzinnes or Hello Hydration.

Creme of Nature Oil Treatment for Hair Creme of Nature Oil Treatment for HairCrème of Nature-Argan Oil Treatment for Hair. This helps repair dry, damaged hair, strengthens & prevents breakage.

Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Cream Moisturizer Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Cream Moisturizer Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer.

And thanks to Kandy Land Kurls, we will be adding Castor Oil to our regimen as well. * I will update our "Washing Routine" Tab very soon.*

It is very important to take the time and care for the curls during the winter, the hair will be amazingly healthy comes Spring!

In a nutshell, these are the things you need to remember: make sure you have a weekly washing routine, do a good deep conditioner, have a good moisturizer at hand, do a lot of protective hairstyles and try not to let the little ones go outside with wet hair.

Please read Kandy Land Kurls post on "Natural Tips and Tricks to Keep Your Child's Hair Healthy This Winter". It will provide you with very helpful tips.

Mohawk With Twist Out Style

When I first saw the Mohawk Style I thought "what an interesting style" and it has been in the back of my mind for a while.

Ms. Bree has been rocking her twist out look for a few days now and I decided to do something similar to the Rolled Mohawk on Natural Hair I saw on Braid With Me site. Make sure you check her website out. The style it's beautiful and is not as complicated as you may think it is.

But Ms. Bree likes to wear her hair out so I compromised and these are the results.

1. I simply did divided her hair in three sections;

2. each section was secured with a pony tail by using "Goody's Ouchless Bands";

3. I used Curls Passion Fruit Curl Control Paste to keep the edges smooth and added a little bit more Bee Mine Curly Butter to the twist outs and made sure the ends were very well moisturized;

4. To accessorize the style, I used two bows with Alligator Clips.

AT NIGHT:

I removed all the accessories;

carefully removed the band and re-did the 2 strand twist.

She slept with satin cap on. I was also able to find a satin pillow cover at our local hair store and it was only 5.99!!

THE NEXT DAY:

She asked for the same style again so I did it by following steps 2-4 all over again and these were the results:
