RECAP- Events and Styles

August 8, 2014

Hello Readers.. we truly apologize for the late posts but we've had some technical difficulties and we hope to be back on full force pretty soon.

In the meantime, I wanted to do a brief recap on Ms. Bree's latest styles and the use of new product by Creme of Nature Argan Oil Line.

School started on August 7th, 2014 for our children and Ms. Bree's back to school style was a very simple one.

If you missed our "Back To School Hairstyle"- You can see it here:

After a week of wearing her hair in pony tails and braids, it was time to let her scalp and hair line rest.  It is very important to remember to let the hair breath after a protective style,  the hair CAN suffer from constant protective style.

Therefore, I unraveled all her braids and pony tails.  The picture below shows the results.  A simple headband to keep her hair away from her face and DONE, she was all ready.

August 13, 2014

After a few days, it was time to wash and style it again.

I decided to use one new product:
Creme of Nature Argan Oil Strength and Shine Leave In Conditioner;

Our Moisturizer remained the same:
Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer

And the oil we used to do this style:
Black Castor Oil

Ms. Bree wanted some "flowers" in her hair, so I used beads to accessories her style.

As you can see from the collage below, she fell asleep while I was styling her hair.  Which not uncommon, after a good wash and detangling session, she tends to fall asleep during the styling process.

August 18, 2014

After approximately 12 days, it was time to wash, deep condition and style her hair.  But I decided to let her scalp rest for a few days.  Her hair looked beautiful once I unraveled all the braids, so why not take advantage of that, right?!

August 30, 2014            September 3, 2014

As some of you may know, Ms. Bree is also a "dancer" and one of the many requirements is to keep her hair neatly gathered and away from her face during practice.

Since Gymnastic class was canceled this past Saturday, I decided that it was the perfect time to Deep Condition her hair, wash and style.. YES, it is a long process, and it can take approximately 2 to 4 hours.

And no, I know what some of you may be thinking.. I don't make her sit there for two or more hours at once.   Ms. Bree is only five years old and she is a very high spirited child.  When I deep condition her hair, I make sure I undo the previous styles and I make sure that the hair is also free of knots and tangles, I do this a few days or at least the day before I intend to DC.

I wash her hair, apply the deep conditioner and a plastic cap.  I let her play for 30 to 45 minutes then I rinse the conditioner out and then I start styling her hair.  We take breaks every 60 minutes.  There have been times when she sits and allows me to just finish the entire style by sitting quietly for 90 minutes.  But I always listen to her and her needs.

I used the following products to style her hair:

Deep Conditioner:
Bee Mine Beeutiful Deep Conditioner;

Shampoo:
Creme of Nature Argan Oil Moisturizing Shampoo;

Conditioner:
Herbal Essence Hello Hydration;

Oil:
Argan Oil, Jobjoba Oil and Coconut Oil Mixture

Moisturizer:
Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer.

Our Back to School Hairstyle

Hello Readers...

I can't believe it's that time again... School is back in session for our little babies... But between you and me, I have to admit, I'm glad!  Summer Camp can get very expensive after a few weeks.

Little Man is now a Second Grader and Ms. Bree is a Kindergartner, where has the time gone? I can't believe our son will be turning eight years old in just a few weeks :)

Because the children attended Summer Camp at their old school.  Which has similar camp hours as their current school, it definitely made the entire process of preparing the kids for a new school year a lot easier.

I have always try to prepare myself mentally for the first day of school and I'm the first one to say that I always fail miserably.

I have always hated the idea of children crying, I've never been able to manage listening to  a child cry and even worse when it's my child.   I'm sure all of you can relate to this and know exactly what I'm talking about.

My daughter has always been my social butterfly! The child who is not shy or afraid to ask a stranger to look at her dress, her hair style or whatever it is she is proud to show.

This time, she shed tears and was very uncertain of herself.  Unfortunately, her best friend was not assigned to the same classroom and all she saw were new faces, which I believe, can intimidate anyone. So I could understand how she felt.

As a parent, it was difficult  to see tears rolled down her little face, my first thought was.. "I can take her home and we can try this tomorrow", but what good would that have done? So, I had to pull my big girls panties all the way up  to my neck (okay maybe not that up, after all that can't be very comfortable... hahhaaaa) and I had to remind myself that she was going to be just fine.

Regardless as to how many times I told myself that she was going to be fine and she was going to have fun once her day started, leaving her was not an easy thing to do!

To be honest, I expected for my son to go through a meltdown, he has always been my baby and has had confidence issues.  He has gotten a lot better and during the first day of school he demonstrated how much he has  grown.  We could see the nervousness in his eyes but he quickly gave me a kiss and sent me on my way.. :)

I wish I could prevent or at least prepare all parents and children for the first day of school so less nerves could be experienced and/or less tears be shed but I can't.. but what we can do is give you ideas on how to style their hair so that your little princess can have more confidence on herself...

BACK TO SCHOOL HAIRSTYLE

I opted for Pony Tails and Braids.. something very simple and semi protective for the first few days of school.

Products Used:

1. Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer;
2. Castor Oil Mix;
3. Pony Tail holders; and
4. Flower Barrettes (or your favorite accessories)

Simple Styles: Braid Out

I'm going to try to make this as short as possible... I will not get upset if you need to stop and come back later to finish reading it!  This post its all about "Braids Out".  Below you will see pictures of Braids Out from two different styles.

On our last post, Short Cornrows and Beads, Ms Bree had a few cornrows on top and a few on the back.

This is what her curlz looked like when I took the braids out.

Product Used:  Bee Mine Bee Lovely Daily Moisturizer;
Hello Kitty Headband from Target.

DAY 2-Half Up Pony Tail

The picture below was taken after school.  As you all can see, her hair gained a little bit of "volume".. Ha ha! Her curlz still looked amazing and was soft!

Product Used:  Bee Mine Bee Lovely Daily Moisturizing
1 Ouchless Band
1 Bow Hair Clip to match her shirt.

DAY 3- Messy Bun

The messy bun was easy to do, by now her hair was "big" so I just spritz some water and applied a bit more of Bee Mine Bee Lovely Daily Moisturizer and gathered all the hair in one loose pony tail.

Then I grabbed the end of the pony tail and pined (hair pins) all ends close to the band securing the pony tail.

As you can probably see from the pictures above, it was time to co-wash and style her hair, which I did.

I washed her hair with Bee Mine Botanical Moisturizing Shampoo;
Conditioner her hair with Bee Mine Avocado Conditioner;

And because she enjoyed wearing her hair out so much, I decided to give her another week of wearing her hair down and I did 10 braids in order to do a Braid Out.

After rinsing her hair out:

I applied our mix of 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and Castor Oil;
then I applied Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer with a little Bee Mine Curly Butter;
and did the braids.

I sent her to school wearing the braids;

Once I've picked Ms. Bree up from school, I got her ready for her little friend's birthday party at Chuckee Cheese and unraveled all her braids.

This is what her hair looked like:
DAY 1

As you can see, her hair was shiny and soft.

DAY 2- Just with a Headband

I damped her hair a little bit and applied Bee Mine Deja Hair Milk;
and just a simple black Headband to accessorize

DAY 3

For Day 3, I again damped her hair a little bit and applied Bee Mine Deja Hair Milk...

Short Cornrows & Beads

It's been a while since we used beads and Ms. Bree has kindly requested I added beads to her braids and I thought "why not".

The first time we added beads to her braids Ms. Bree decided to let her friends from school touch them and some beads were lost. And by some I mean half of the beads and snaps were lost!

For this style I did very simple short cornrows and used medium size beads.  Last time we used small beads and I really didn't like the look at the end.

After washing her hair I applied our oil mix (equal parts of Castor Oil and 100% Coconut Oil) then applied Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer and banded her hair.  For more details on banding please see our post What is Banding?

Ms Bree's hair was banded for one day before I braided her hair.

Day 2

Products used:

First, I divided each section to start braiding,

Then I damped the hair with a little bit of water;

Then applied Bee Mine Curly Butter with a little bit of Eco Styler Gel with Argan Oil and started to braid;

I secured each braid with a rubber band;

Once all her hair was braided I began to add the beads.

Each braid has 7 beads in total.

Day 3

Day 5

Day 7

Maintenance:

I moisturize her scalp with Bee Loved Hair & Scalp Moisturizer at least once a day;
For the braids, I spritz Bee Mine Juicy Moisturizing Daily Spritz.
When her ends are exposed, I use either Bee Mine Curly Butter or Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer to at least once a day (usually before bedtime).

How do you maintain the styles looking fresh??

Great Style & 4th Birthday Photos!

Ms. Bree turned 4 yrs old on Friday but her party is schedule for this upcoming Saturday, make sure you don't miss Royal Birthday Party- Part II

While we wait for the big day to come, we surely are having some fun getting ready for it.

We started by having her pictures taken on Saturday morning.

After a few requests from our facebook fans, Ms. Bree rocked her natural curls for this photo session.  Make sure you follow us on facebook: CaramelCurlzNSwirls

Ms. Bree's photo session was scheduled for 11:00 a.m., therefore I washed her hair around 9:00 a.m. giving the hair enough time to air dry.  I do not use a blow dryer to dry her hair (at all)

I Washed her hair using the following:
    *Creme of Nature Argan Oil Moisturizing Shampoo;
    *Suave Moroccan Infusion Shine Conditioner (review will be posted soon);

To style it:
    *100% Coconut Oil applied to wet hair;
    *Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer;
    *Bee Mine Curly Butter

I made sure that her hair was completely detangled during the conditioning process;

I used only my fingers to apply the products (no combs/brushes);

I placed a towel around her to make sure her clothes didn't get wet and I actually left it in place until her hair was almost dry.

Note: When we are at home and Ms. Bree is playing with Lil Man, I make sure that she wears her satin cap to minimize the frizzies.

She is old enough now to keep her satin cap on most of the time, if it falls off while playing, she is really good about letting me know right and I just put it back on.
