1. What is your name and the name of your Business?
Kathleen Johnson and the name of my business is "Snapaholics"

2. Where is your business located?
Online business based out of Salt Lake City Utah

3. Business' Website:

4. Are you the owner?
Yes, I am the new owner.  I purchased it from the previous owner a few months ago.

5.  Briefly tell us about your business:
Snapaholics is an online store selling hair accessories mostly geared for kids but we have things for adults too.  We provide hair beads, beading tools, hair snaps, hair barrettes, and ballies for kids at great prices.  We specialize in hard-to-find bling!  We also have styling tools, satin pillow cases, and sleep caps.  We have a page featuring hair styling videos as well.

6.  How did you come to be in this line of work?
When I adopted my oldest daughter she was almost 4 and had tons of hair.  I had to quickly learn everything I could about taking care of and styling African American hair.  What a fun adventure that has been.  She is almost 10 now and I have learned so much along the way.  We also now have a 3 year old, so I have 2 gorgeous girls whose hair I enjoy styling and caring for.

In my area, it is hard to find hair accessories and hair products geared towards african american hair so it has always been a struggle to get the right things for them.  So, when Snapaholics became available to purchase it seemed like the perfect fit for me.  I can continue to stay home with my cute girls, have my own business, and offer a product that I know is needed in areas like mine.

7. How long have you been doing this?
I purchased Snapaholics just a few short months ago.  However, Snapaholics was run by the previous owner for several years.

8. Who would benefit from your product?
Anyone can benefit from our products.  We have items that are geared towards younger girls but we also have items that older girls and tweens would like.  We also have items adults can use.  We are adding items weekly so we are trying to get a little of something for everyone.  Soon, we will have a bigger variety of sleep caps and we will have some designs for boys as well.

Short Cornrows & Beads

It's been a while since we used beads and Ms. Bree has kindly requested I added beads to her braids and I thought "why not".

The first time we added beads to her braids Ms. Bree decided to let her friends from school touch them and some beads were lost. And by some I mean half of the beads and snaps were lost!

For this style I did very simple short cornrows and used medium size beads.  Last time we used small beads and I really didn't like the look at the end.

After washing her hair I applied our oil mix (equal parts of Castor Oil and 100% Coconut Oil) then applied Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer and banded her hair.  For more details on banding please see our post What is Banding?

Ms Bree's hair was banded for one day before I braided her hair.

Day 2

Products used:

First, I divided each section to start braiding,

Then I damped the hair with a little bit of water;

Then applied Bee Mine Curly Butter with a little bit of Eco Styler Gel with Argan Oil and started to braid;

I secured each braid with a rubber band;

Once all her hair was braided I began to add the beads.

Each braid has 7 beads in total.

Day 3

Day 5

Day 7

Maintenance:

I moisturize her scalp with Bee Loved Hair & Scalp Moisturizer at least once a day;
For the braids, I spritz Bee Mine Juicy Moisturizing Daily Spritz.
When her ends are exposed, I use either Bee Mine Curly Butter or Bee Mine Luscious Moisturizer to at least once a day (usually before bedtime).

How do you maintain the styles looking fresh??

Let's Get Organized!!

If you are a hair accessory lover like I am, then most likely you are going crazy with all the accessories.

The accessories were taking over my bedroom and bathroom until my friend had a great idea, she purchased a craft organizer box from Michaels for a very reasonable price.  What I love about the organizer box is that you can make the compartments bigger for those bands or bows/barrettes that are in the bigger side, it's completely clear so you are able to see the contents without having the need to open, and it snaps close easily.

But the more fun I was having with her hair the more accessories I found myself buying, eventually my organizer box was not big enough to hold all the accessories.

Here is where my husband came to my rescue. He had a Stereilite 6 Drawer Cart (with wheels) that he kept in our room for his personal use.  After seeing me struggle with all Ms. Bree's hair accessories, he gave me the cart and said that I could organize the accessories better by using the drawers for different items.

I immediately made this a "family project", my son an daughter got into the idea of organizing all the items by color and sizes and we had  lot of fun in the process.  For me it is always important to share various activities with my children and during this project we also talked about sizes, shapes and colors.

I really love the cart, specially the clear drawers, i can easily see the contents of them.  I also like the fact that it has wheels which allows me to roll the cart to wherever I need it to be.

There are so many different ways that you can organize your hair accessories, here are a few ideas:

* Craft organizer box: which can be found at any crafting store, (i.e. Michaels, Walmart, Target)

* Stackable Cabinet:  These come in different sizes with clear drawers.

* Ice Tray Cubes:  These are really good for small barrettes, bows and bands.

* 2 Tray Classic Tackle Box:  Some stores like Walmart actually have a Disney Princess Tackle Box and it is also very convenient for traveling.

* Hair Accessories Storage Board:  If you are a crafty mommy you can probably make your own at home with things that you probably already have.
